The buses of the Madrid Municipal Transport Company (EMT, for its acronym in Spanish) will be free for all users on Monday, January 10 and Tuesday, January 11.

The measure was announced by the mayor of the capital city of Spain, Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida. The municipal government intends thus to support the return to face-to-face school by thousands of kids, adolescents and youngsters after the Christmas holidays.

«On the occasion of the return to school, on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th of January we put all the buses free for the user. The best Madrid is back,”, said the mayor on Twitter.

This is not the first time that the Madrid city government offers free transport. The buses were also free on the last weekend of November 2021, coinciding with the lighting of the Christmas lights and the Black Friday shopping campaign.

The measure was also tested on the return to school a year ago, but its effects were hardly noticed due to the arrival of the 'Filomena' snowstorm.
