A 70-year-old Finnish man has been arrested in Torrevieja, Alicante (Spain) on suspicion of having killed and later dismembered the body of his sentimental partner, a 68-year-old Finnish woman.

According to reports in the Spanish press, part of the woman's remains were found by a homeless person inside a garbage container on the morning of Thursday, October 28.

The suspect was detained by the Spanish police late at night.

The Spanish authorities are not aware of any previous reports of mistreatment, domestic violence or of any kind between the couple.

The discovery of the victim's limbs (both legs and an arm) occurred around 1:45 p.m. on Luis Canovas Martinez Street, very close to a supermarket.

In search for more remains

The Civil Guard took charge of the investigation, with an extensive operation aimed at locating more remains of the woman in the garbage containers on the nearby streets.

In one of the containers located next to the 'Arco' urbanization, where the couple is believed to have lived, police experts have worked for several hours and have extracted several bags with remains.

Images recorded by surveillance cameras in the area facilitated the identification and subsequent arrest of the alleged murderer.

Police conducted a search of his home late Thursday night.
