Spain has been shaken over the weekend by a terrible event involving a minor who allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl in Catalonia.
In the early of Sunday, the Catalan regional police (Mossos d'Esquadra) arrested a 13-year-old boy accused of raping a teenager in Tarragona. The police became aware of the events around 1:30 in the morning.
According to the newspaper Diario de Tarragona, the alleged aggressor was released shortly after being questioned by the police because, being less than 14 years old, he cannot be charged under Spanish law and it is his family who should take care of him. The alleged sexual aggressor has a record for similar events, according to press reports.
The sexual assault occurred in a parking lot located at number 64 of the Rambla Nova in Tarragona.
According to the preliminary investigation, the 13-year-old boy forced the girl to perform fellatio on him. She refused, but he beat her into doing it. He later raped her and stole her mobile phone, which has since been recovered by police officers.
Juvenile Prosecutor's Office
The two had met with a group of friends, but the sexual assault occurred when they were alone, according to the little information that has emerged from the case.
Although the alleged aggressor cannot be charged due to his age, the case has been brought to the attention of the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, which will be the body in charge of adopting the measures it deems necessary.
The events took place a few days after the Mossos d'Esquadra arrested last week in the municipality of Igualada, in the province of Barcelona, the alleged perpetrator of another brutal rape of an underage girl.
