The US government has ridiculed the Russian sanctions on US President Joe Biden and other US politicians.

"I would first note that President Biden is a Junior, so they may have sanctioned his dad, may he rest in peace," the White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in Washington on Tuesday.

Biden's full name is Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr, while his father was Joseph Robinette Biden Sr, with the latter name now subject to sanctions.

Psaki added: "It won't surprise any of you that none of us are planning tourist trips to Russia."

In reaction to US sanctions after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Ministry published its own list on Tuesday of 13 names who were no longer allowed to enter the country.

These include US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and Psaki, as well as the former secretary of state, Hillary Clinton.
