Thousands of people in Estonia have protested against measures planned to stem the spread of the coronavirus following a surge in the number of infections in the country.
Demonstrators gathered in the capital Tallinn on Saturday, in a show of anger about mandatory vaccinations and new coronavirus restrictions.
Some of the participants at the rally in Freedom Square carried flags and posters but hardly any wore masks, according to photos in Estonian media reports.
The government has reintroduced stricter pandemic rules to control the spread of the virus.
From October 25, proof of vaccination or recovery from Covid-19 and a tightened mask requirement will apply in many areas.
The new regulations allow "only those who have been fully vaccinated against or who have contracted and recovered from Covid-19 to take part in controlled events and activities," the State Chancellery said in a statement.
Situation worsened
In Estonia, the situation has worsened in recent weeks. With 1,643 new cases, the number of new infections recorded on Saturday reached a level last seen during the wave of cases in March.
Official figures show some 1,238 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants were registered in the last 14 days.
Estonia has one of the highest infection rates in Europe, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
In Estonia, some 55% of the 1.2 million residents are fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
