Saudi monarch admitted to hospital for medical tests
In 2020, Salman underwent surgery to remove his bladder at a hospital in the Saudi capital Riyadh
Saudi Arabia’s 86-year-old King Salman was admitted to a hospital for unspecified medical tests, the official Saudi Press Agency SPA reported on Sunday.
The Saudi Royal Court said in a brief statement the monarch was admitted on Saturday evening to the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in the Saudi Red Sea city of Jeddah to undergo some medical check-ups but it did not give details.
In 2020, Salman underwent surgery to remove his bladder at a hospital in the Saudi capital Riyadh.
In March of this year, he had the battery of his pacemaker changed.
There has been much speculation about the health of Salman, who has ruled oil-rich Saudi Arabia since 2015.
Prince Mohammed
In 2017, Salman ceded most of his power to his son, Crown Prince Mohammed, who is the country's de-facto ruler.
That same year, dozens of Saudi royals, former state officials and influential businessmen were rounded up in an alleged anti-corruption sweep championed by the young heir apparent.
Mohammed, 36, is seen as the driving force behind opening up the ultra-conservative country to the outside world and weaning its economy off oil.
