Russia plans to replace its last two Soviet-era nuclear submarines by 2030, a government representative told state news agency Ria Novosti on Monday.
By that time, the ninth and 10th nuclear submarines of the new class should be in operation, he said.
The last submarine produced under project 667BDRM was the Novomoskovsk, which was launched in 1990, before the end of the Soviet Union in 1991.
Russia's strategic submarine fleet is outfitted with nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missiles, which serves as a deterrent.
In the event of a nuclear war, it can launch a counter-attack from the sea.
