One woman has died and two others injured after a series of stabbings at different locations in the southern Norwegian city of Sarpsborg in the early hours of Wednesday, police said.
One woman aged, believed to be aged between 50 and 60 years old, died of serious stab wounds. Another woman was seriously injured, while a third escaped with less severe injuries, a police spokesperson told news agency NTB.
A 31-year-old suspect has been arrested following the stabbings in Sarpsborg, about 90 kilometres south of Oslo. Police believe the attacker, who was already on their radar, acted alone.
According to police reports, the first of the women was attacked shortly before midnight at a bus stop while waiting in a car for a relative.
Shortly afterwards, the two other attacks happened at different addresses. One of the victims recognized the attacker, who was then arrested at his home.
The initial investigation revealed that the attacker knew the two women, though it remains unclear whether he knew the first victim.
