James Bond gun used by Sean Connery sold for over 250,000 dollars

A handgun used by Sean Connery in the first James Bond film was sold at auction for 256,000 dollars on Thursday.

The Walther PP gun appeared in the 1962 film 'Dr. No' and was used by Connery in his first film playing secret agent 007, as well as the first film in the series.

Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills had estimated it would sell for 150,000 to 200,000 dollars.

The buyer decided to remain anonymous, but the auction house said it was an American who has watched every Bond film with his children.

Connery died in October at the age of 90 in the Bahamas. He was the favourite Bond actor for many fans. He played the British spy seven times between 1962 and 1983.

More than 500 pieces of Hollywood memorabilia went under the hammer in the 'Icons & Idols' auction, which included costumes and objects from stars including John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe, John Travolta, Greta Garbo and Elizabeth Taylor.

A pilot's helmet with the word 'maverick' on the front worn by Tom Cruise in the 1986 film 'Top Gun' sold for just under 109,000 dollars.

A sword used by Bruce Willis in the 1994 film 'Pulp Fiction' sold for just over 35,000 dollars.
