Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid withdrew her candidacy for the position of secretary general of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on Tuesday.

In a statement issued by the presidential office in Tallinn, Kaljulaid said she had withdrawn from the running to succeed incumbent Angel Gurria after some member states voiced reservations.

With Kaljulaid's withdrawal, there are now six candidates in the running.

The OECD's 37 member countries are set to vote on a successor by early March, who will begin a five-year term in June.

Estonia has been an OECD member since 2010.
