Police in Estonia said on Sunday they had arrested a man who prompted a large-scale manhunt after he shot dead two people and injured three others, among them two young children, before fleeing into the woods.
Investigators said the 32-year-old suspect initially rammed into two cars and a wall at a petrol station near the small town of Lihula in western Estonia on Saturday.
A motorcyclist then pursued the man as he fled the scene of the accident, police said, whereupon the suspect shot the biker dead.
The man then opened fire on a passing vehicle with four occupants, investigators said, killing a woman and injuring a man and two children aged 3 and 5. The survivors are being treated in hospital.
Into the forest
The suspect then fled further into the surrounding forest and engaged in a number of shoot-outs with police before they could apprehend him.
Authorities said the suspect owned a summer house in the area and had been under the influence of alcohol. He also owns a valid firearm permit, they said.
Estonian Prime Minister Jueri Ratas said on Facebook he had been shocked by what he described as a "tragic incident."
Police said they had yet to identify a motive for the killings.
