Algerian delivery driver to be deported from France for anti-Semitism
An Algerian food delivery driver is to be deported from France for anti-Semitic behaviour, France's Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin wrote on Twitter on Thursday.
The man had allegedly refused to deliver food from Israeli restaurants and was sentenced to four months in prison, according to Darmanin.
According to the French news agency AFP, the Algerian entered France about a year ago on a tourist visa, but is now living illegally in France.
Last week, two Jewish restaurant operators from Strasbourg filed a complaint against the food supplier, as the local broadcaster France Bleu Alsace reported.
The man had allegedly refused to deliver deliveries from the restaurants and said that he "did not deliver to Jews."
In a statement, representatives of the Strasbourg City Council condemned all anti-Semitic acts.
Israel's ambassador to France meanwhile described the act as an "expression of hatred."
