Spain allocates € 21 million to hire workers for employment services
The Spanish Council of Ministers approved last week a real decree that establishes the hiring of 926 people for the State Public Employment Service (SEPE, for its acronym in Spanish).
The initiative is the result of a joint proposal by the ministries of Labor and Social Economy and of Finance and Public Function. And it is due, as the government explained in a statement, to the need to provide SEPE with "a sufficient and adequate staff and structure" to provide its services. It has the support of the CCOO, UGT and CIG unions.
According to the government, this increase in personnel will mean an investment of 21.16 million euros. The hiring of these workers will make it possible to reinforce the attention that citizens demand from the employment services.
The structural reinforcement responds to the objective of allowing the SEPE to assume the workload under normal conditions. Eventually, it could be reinforced with programs of interim officials in order to address situations of temporary increase in the workload assumed by the SEPE.
According to government data, from December 2010 to December 2020, the structural staff of the SEPE was reduced by 2,089 officials.
