Over 2.3 million foreign workers contribute to Spanish Social Security
The number of foreigners registered in the Self-Employed scheme grew in the last month, placing the total at 386,089
The Spanish Social Security registered 2,306,664 foreign contributors in December 2021, after discounting seasonality and the calendar effect, the latest data released by the government show. This is 16,565 jobs more (0.72%) than the previous month.
With this increase, there are 100,000 more foreign workers in Spain than in February 2020, before the impact of the pandemic, after seven consecutive months of growth.
In terms of average affiliation, Social Security had 2,269,806 foreign contributors in December, of which 791,306 came from EU countries (34.86%) and 1,478,5000 from third countries (65.14%). remaining). This is, on average, 6,525 more employed than in November.
The largest groups of foreign employed persons in Spain come from Romania (331,739), Morocco (285,501), Italy (140,387), China (107,143) and Venezuela (106,264).
Of the total, 56.66% were men (1,286,201), while 43.34% were women (983,605).

By region
By autonomous regions, the greatest increases in the number of foreign contributors corresponded to Andalusia (3.76%) and Castilla-La Mancha (1.77%).
The Canary Islands (0.89%), La Rioja (0.48%), the Community of Madrid (0.40%) and the autonomous cities of Ceuta (0.30%) and Melilla (0.45%) also grew above the average.
On the contrary, the most pronounced decreases were registered in Extremadura (-5.56%), the Balearic Islands (-5.17%), Cantabria (-1.52%) and Galicia (-1%).
