Nights spent in Finland by foreign tourists increased by 4.8% in June
Accommodation establishments in Uusimaa recorded 342,000 overnight stays by non-resident tourists (+8.3%) and accommodation establishments in Lapland 60,000 (+9.9%).
In June, the number of overnight stays by resident tourists at Finnish accommodation establishments increased by 6.4% from last year and 1.67 million nights were recorded for them. Overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 4.8%, up to 0.61 million, according to the latest figures published by Statistics Finland.
Altogether, Finnish accommodation establishments recorded 2.28 million overnight stays, which was 5.9% more than one year before. These figures are still preliminary and they have been collected from accommodation establishments with at least 20 beds or caravan pitches with electricity connection.

Overnight stays by Germans increased most
Among the most important countries of inbound tourism to Finland, overnight stays by Germans increased most in absolute numbers, by 8,900 nights. This was 12% higher than in the year before. The biggest drop was seen among Russians, down by 1,500 nights. Their overnight stays were 3% down compared to June 2018.
The biggest group of non-resident tourists were German, with 84,000 overnight stays. The second largest group was Swedes, with 58,400. Russians were the third with 56,100, and fourth was tourists from the United States, who recorded 38,900 overnight stays. The fifth largest group was Chinese tourists (34,500 nights), sixth was British visitors (28,300 nights), seventh Estonian tourists (20,900 nights) and eighth Japanese visitors (19,700 nights).
The largest increase, in Ostrobothnia
Examined by region, overnight stays increased most in relative terms in Ostrobothnia by 16%, and second most in South Karelia, by 14%. By contrast, the overall number of overnight stays decreased most in relative terms in Central Ostrobothnia, by 4%, and second most in Satakunta, by 3%.

Overnight stays by non-resident tourists increased by 8.3% in Uusimaa and by 9.9% in Lapland from one year ago. The share of Uusimaa in all overnight stays by foreign visitors was 56% and that of Lapland 10%.
