Germans, Brits flock to Mallorca for Easter as hotel occupancy soars
For the first time since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic two years ago, Mallorca expects hotels on the island popular with German and British tourists to be at capacity.
The island's occupancy rate for the period between April 8 and 18 will be over 85%, taking into account last-minute bookings, according to Mallorcan hotelier association FEHM.
This is only 3 percentage points below the pre-Covid Easter in 2019, said FEHM president María Frontera.
For higher-class accommodation and luxury hotels, occupancy will even be above the level of three years ago, despite an increase in room rates compared to 2019, she added.
She said demand is especially strong from abroad: first and foremost visitors from Germany, but also from Britain and Scandinavia.
40,000 Germans to Mallorca
The spokesperson for the German tour operator TUI, Aage Dünhaupt, confirmed this.
He said that he expected "almost 40,000 TUI guests from Germany" to visit Mallorca during the Easter holidays. Due to the demand, TUI Fly had added additional flights from Düsseldorf, Hanover, Frankfurt and Stuttgart over the period.
Tourism is a critical sector for Mallorca, where the high season begins on May 2. With the exception of three hotels that are still undergoing a total renovation, all island accommodations will be open by May, according to FEHM.
