VIDEO: 60 people evacuated from their homes due to a fire in Galapagar
The Civil Guard is now investigating the causes of the fire together with the Galapagar Local Police
Last night, a spectacular fire that spread rapidly across the roof of a three-storey block of flats forced the evacuation of some 60 people from their homes in Galapagar (northwest of the Madrid region).
According to the 112 emergency service, the fire affected at least 4 duplex apartments and two people had to be taken to the El Escorial Hospital due to smoke inhalation.
The injured were first treated at the scene by the emergency service of the community of Madrid (Summa 112) and apparently their condition is not serious.
According to a neighbor on the same street, who witnessed the fire, no ambulances were needed to deal with any serious injuries. This witness said the flames could have started in a bedroom shortly before midnight.
Investigation
Six crews from the Madrid Fire Brigade traveled to the site of the fire, located on Melonares street, and managed to extinguish the flames.
The Civil Guard is now investigating the causes of the fire together with the Galapagar Local Police.
If it is confirmed that the fire started in a bedroom, it could have been caused by a failure in a heating system, but other options are not ruled out.
