Following a 12-year hiatus from directing, Jane Campion’s acclaimed western-drama The Power of the Dog has taken the #1 spot on the Top 10 of the most viewed on Netflix. The film starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons and Kodi Smit-McPhee, opened with 27.2 million viewing hours.

According to the streaming platform Netflix, last week it was all about the holiday films. New to the top 10 were Castle for Christmas at #2 with 25.55M hours and Single All the Way at #6 with 13.82M hours. Love Hard and The Claus Family are on their fifth week in the Top 10, and A Boy Called Christmas made the list for the second week in a row.

In addition to these new films, classic seasonal films like 2018’s The Christmas Chronicles and 2020’s The Christmas Chronicles 2 also saw a boost.

On the TV side, it was final farewells that swept the #1 spots this week. 

La Casa de Papel (Money Heist), the Spanish heist story from Alex Pina that has taken the world by storm, racked in a staggering 189.92M hours.

From red jumpsuits to everyone’s favorite sexy robot, the closing season of the family adventure series Lost in Space landed the #1 spot on the English side with 47.38M hours viewed. Audiences around the world were catching up with the Robinson family with S1 landing at #4 with 20.9M hours.

New entries

Netflix also welcomed new names/entries to the list including unscripted series School of Chocolate, anime series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure STONE OCEAN, and family series Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous S4

Meanwhile, other shows have proven their staying power with double digit weeks in the top 10, including limited series Maid at 10 weeks, Korean dramas Squid Game at 12 weeks and Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha at 14 weeks.
