UN Women Executive Director will discuss women’s rights in Finland

Finland will chair the Executive Board of UN Women in 2020.

Ministry for Foreign Affairs has informed that Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of UN Women will come to Finland on 4 February to discuss gender equality.

Mlambo-Ngcuka will meet with Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pekka Haavisto, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, one the most historical landmarks for gender equality around the world.

Mlambo-Ngcukawill will discuss with the main partner countries of UN Women. The meeting will be chaired by Under-Secretary of State Elina Kalkku.

UN Women will call attention to women’s rights and gender equality with its Generation Equality campaign and two Generation Equality forums. These events are directed by the UN Secretary-General’s review of the execution of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

According to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs: “Strengthening the rights and status of women and girls and promoting gender equality are emphasized in Finland’s foreign policy.” UN Women is one of the biggest partners of Finland among the UN specialized agencies, and at the same time, Finland contributes with UN actively.
