According to the coast guard, none of the passengers was in danger, the situation was under control and preparations for the evacuation of the ship started at 15:40 local time. The operation was carried out by the West Finland Coastguard district.
Turku-Stockholm route
The Viking Line vessel, with 207 passengers and 74 crew, was heading from Turku to Stockholm, the company said in a statement.
The same ship also ran aground in the same area 7 years ago (in 2013), Finnish and Swedish media reported.
This time the ship deliberately ran aground in order to avoid taking in water, due to problems on board, according to Ålands radio.
