A serious road accident in Jyväskylä on Saturday night claimed the lives of two teenagers under the age of 18.

According to police information, the accident took place in the Vaajakoski road. The police and the Road Traffic Investigation Board are looking into what happened.

According to the local newspaper Keskisuomalainen, the victims are two teenage boys who were riding a motocross bike and collided with a car.

The unwanted event happened after 23:00 in  a section of the road about 5 kilometers from the city center. 

When the car was turning onto Järveläntie, it was hit by the motorbike coming from Vaajakoski. Both youngsters died even before the rescue services units arrived at the scene. The car driver was unharmed.

Motorcycle unregistered

Superintendent Timo Hänninen of the Central Finland Police Department told Keskisuomalainen that the motorcycle was unregistered and did not have lights.

The preliminary information handled by the investigators suggests that alcohol or other intoxicants were not the cause of the accident.

Road conditions were good at the time of the accident, but vehicle speeds are still unknown as there were no witnesses. Both vehicles were seriously damaged.
