The police is prepared in case people should arrive in Finland from the Al-Hawl (also spelled as al-Hol) camp.

According to a press release by the National Police Board, the preparation measures "have been planned over several months." The police said they have "paid particular attention to ensuring internal security."

"The police must handle all possible security threats that could be caused for Finland by the returning process, be it the returnees, the people close to them or other operators," says Seppo Kolehmainen, National Police Commissioner.

"As I have stated before, I have not been aware of the contents of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ plans for bringing back Finns from Al-Hawl. The National Police Board has also not received a formal request for official assistance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or other requests concerning the matter. Experts of the National Police Board have naturally been involved in the planning, carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs."

There has been public discussion about a document, prepared by the National Police Board and signed by the National Police Commissioner Seppo Kolehmainen. This is a confidential plan related to preparations by the police.
