Payment of Finnish pensions to UK would be continued for one year after no-deal Brexit
If the United Kingdom (UK) withdraws from the European Union (EU) without an agreement, the recipients of Finnish national pension residing in the UK would be paid national pension for one year after the withdrawal, informed today the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.
This so called 'protection period' of one year is the same as for national pension recipients moving to any country outside the EU.
In the end of 2018, Finnish national pension was paid to 320 persons residing in the UK. Their average pension was €105.22 per month.
The Government submitted its proposal to Parliament on Thursday, 29 August. The act is due to enter into force in autumn 2019 but it would be applied as of the date of the withdrawal, if the UK leaves from the EU without an agreement.
"By means of the act, Finland prepares for a no-deal Brexit. The act will guarantee a one-year protection period for Finnish national pension recipients residing in the UK", says the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.
