At the end of 2018, the Finnish vehicle register contained 6,623,990 vehicles, of which 5,085,796 were in traffic use. The total number of registered vehicles grew by 2.3 per cent and the number of vehicles in traffic use grew by 0.8 per cent compared with the situation at the end of 2017.

At the end of 2018, the vehicle register of the Åland Islands contained 48,566 vehicles. These data, compiled by Statistics Finland, are based on the traffic affairs register of the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom) and the vehicle register of Ålands Fordonsmyndigheten.

At the end of 2018, there were 3,494,836 passenger cars in the register, of which 2,720,663 were in traffic use. The number of registered passenger cars went up by 2.1 per cent and the number of passenger cars in traffic by 1.0 per cent. The number of registered passenger cars was growing most in the region of Pirkanmaa and least in the region of South Savo.

The average age of registered passenger cars in Mainland Finland was 14.9 years and that of cars in traffic use was 12.1 years. The average age of passenger cars was lowest in the region of Uusimaa 12.3 years and highest in the region Kainuu 17.2 years.

The most common models of passenger cars in the register of Mainland Finland were Toyota Corolla (around 146,000), Volkswagen Golf (about 129,000) and Toyota Avensis (approx. 91,000).
