Smugglers threw drugs down the toilet when police arrived
The National Bureau of Investigation (Keskusrikospoliisi) and the Customs conducted a joint investigation on a serious drug offence committed by people living in Lapland and southern Sweden. They are suspected of having acquired and distributed large amounts of amphetamine and hashish, the police reported.
Preliminary investigation revealed continuous drug trafficking in Finland from autumn 2018 to spring 2019. According to police information, the drugs amounted for "several kilograms" and were obtained by the main suspects from Sweden.
The investigation uncovered also several firearm offences. In Sweden, authorities are also investigating a case of gross money laundering in relation to this incident.
Home searches
Finnish police informed that several searches were made in homes in the context of the investigation. In one of them, suspects tried to get rid of the amphetamine by throwing it down the toilet. The police released an image about it.
During the searches, police confiscated several firearms, some of which have been described as extremely dangerous, and several thousand euros in cash. It is suspected that the money is related to the sale of drugs.
