The Swedish head of government Stefan Löfven will not be present at the meeting of European leaders because he will attend his mother's funeral.

Finland and Sweden will set a new example of Nordic cooperation at the next big meeting of European leaders.

Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin will also represent Sweden at the extraordinary European Council meeting in Brussels on October 1 and 2 at the request of Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, who will not be able to attend, the Government Communications Department reported in a Press release.

According to the Swedish news agency TT, Löfven will miss the meeting of European leaders in order to attend a painful and urgent personal matter: his mother's funeral. Sweden's EU minister Hans Dahlgren will also be in Brussels.

The meeting was initially scheduled for September 24 and 25, but was postponed for a week due to possible exposure to the coronavirus from the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.
