Police have released images of the five suspects and are asking for citizens' collaboration to locate them.
The Helsinki police are looking for 5 young men of foreign origin who beat another man to death in Helsinki in front of a restaurant. According to the preliminary investigation, everything started at dawn due to an insignificant incident on leaving the premises which led to a massive fight. The attackers and the dead victim did not know each other.
According to police information, the events occurred at night between Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 July, in front of the Kaivohuone night club in Helsinki.
The incident started inside the restaurant, around 1:00 in the morning, after the light signals.
According to the reconstruction of the facts that the investigators have released, a group of young people (native born Finns) who had spent the night in the pub were heading towards the exit when, at the time of picking up their coats in the wardrobe, a man they did not know hit one of them "without any reason."
"The person who hit was part of a group of people of foreign origin," says the police in their statement.
Fight outside the restaurant
Later, according to what has been seen on security cameras and the testimonies of the members of the first group, police says the men of foreign origin tried to provoke a fight.
The first group remained passive and left the place. However, a short time later they realized that some 50 meters away, the young men of foreign origin were hitting and kicking one of the men in their group. According to the police account, they tried to stop them, but they were also attacked.
In addition, at least one of the men in the first group said he had already been attacked before he tried to stop the fight, says the police.
Then a massive fight began in which several people suffered injuries. As a result, one of the victims, a native born Finnish man, died the following night, from Sunday to Monday.
Police Commissioner Jukka Larkio explained that "at this time, with the data we have, we suspect that several people have committed the crime and now in the investigation we are trying to clarify what the participation in the events of each of those people has been."
Police have released images of the five suspects and are asking for citizens' collaboration to locate them. Any information or clues to find suspects can be sent by email to the address vakivaltarikosyksikko.helsinki@poliisi.fi or via Whatsapp to 050 562 7405.
