Police look for a "woman in white" who witnessed a "brutal assault" at a nightclub
A 30-year-old Iraqi man has been arrested in Helsinki for hitting a Finn with a pint of beer on his head. The victim needed to be treated at the hospital.
The Helsinki Police Department investigates what they call a "brutal assault" that happened in the early hours of Sunday morning at the dance floor of a night club located at Kaivokatu 12, in central Helsinki.
According to the account of the facts made by the police in a press release, one man "dressed in white clothes at the moment of the incident" hit another on the head with a pint of beer and caused him injuries for which he had to be taken to the hospital. The suspect left the club after the aggression, but was arrested later in the neighborhood.
The police said the suspect is a 30-year-old Iraqi man and the victim of the assault is a Finnish man a couple of years older. Now the investigation is focused on finding a woman "in a full white dress" who was there at the time of the attack and could help discover the reason for the fight.
As a witness
The police stress that they want to interrogate the woman as a witness, but she is not suspected of having committed any crime. The police statement does not clarify if the reason for the incident that triggered the attack could be the interest of both men for the woman.
"The hearing of the witness in question may significantly contribute to the investigation of the case. We ask her to contact the police as soon as possible", said Reijo Enqvist, crime investigator from the Helsinki Police Department. The police invites this witness to contact them by email at vakivaltarikosyksikko.helsinki@poliisi.fi or by phone: 0295 417 931.
Other persons who may have clues or relevant observations about this assault are also invited to report their data to the police through the same channels.
