On Sunday evening, police arrested a 35-year-old woman suspected of killing an under school age child in Espoo.
According to police information, the crime was committed on Sunday 19 January inside one apartment in the Suurpelto area. When the police arrived at the apartment, the child was already dead.
The crime suspect is the child's mother. Police explained that, at the time of the crime, there was nobody else in the home, so it is not suspected that there are other parties involved in the event.
Police says the suspect confessed the crime and was remanded into custody by the Western Uusimaa District Court on Wednesday. Both the suspect and the victim are British citizens.
Finnish newspaper Iltalehti reported that the woman suspected had been working as an English teacher in Helsinki and moved to Suurpelto last year.
The Western Uusimaa police department is currently investigating the matter as a murder. The due date for prosecution is 17 April 2020.
Police explained in a release that due to legislation, no more details of the case can be provided at this stage of the investigation.
