The Easter holidays have already passed, but if you live in Finland you still have other festivities ahead: the next Wednesday First of May (known in Finland as Vappu); The Ascension Day (this year on Thursday, May 30th) and the Midsummer Eve (this year on Friday, June 21st).

The institution of the Finnish Social Security (Kela) has foreseen that the celebration of such holidays may affect the perception of unemployment benefits and the dates can differ.

The fact is that the coincidence of holidays with the days scheduled for reporting activity or for payment could delay the collection of the money in some cases. Kela has published on its website a calendar for those specific dates.

To avoid inconveniences, Kela recommends its customers to submit their activity reports by using its electronic service as soon as possible, preferably on the day of the return date, so that the money will be on the bank accounts on schedule. The calendar for those days is the following:

For May Day

When unemployment notice period ends on:

  • 26-28 April. The activity reports can be submitted to Kela on April 26th. The money will be available in the bank account at the earliest on April 30th.
  • April 29th. The activity reports can be submitted to Kela on April 29th. The funds will be available in the bank account at the earliest on May 2nd.
  • April 30th. The activity reports can be submitted to Kela on April 30th. The money will be available in the bank account at the earliest on May 3rd.
