Passengers at Finnish airports fell 91% in October
Finnish airports are dying amidst travel restrictions enacted by the Finnish government, which currently applies strict limitations to people from all Schengen countries and from almost the entire world.
Travelers from countries with an incidence of less than 25 coronavirus cases per 100,000 inhabitants during the previous 2 weeks can enter without sanitary restrictions (Covid-19 tests, quarantine...). But this limit is so strict that only a handful of countries, not even including Finland, can meet it.
So, the crisis in the air transport industry worsens every day, according to the actors involved in the business.
Statistics Finland released its Tourism and Transportation figures for October 2020 on Thursday. According to the data, during the last month a total of 196,279 passengers flew through Finnish airports, which was 91% fewer than twelve months earlier.
There were 147,736 passengers at Helsinki Airport (92% less compared to October 2019) and 48,543 at other domestic airports (down by 826%). Helsinki Airport accounted for 75% of all passengers at domestic airports.
Of the passengers, 56% came from international flights and 44% from domestic flights. The share of passengers on international flights was 71% at Helsinki Airport and 9% at other domestic airports.
