A man has been detained in Espoo (west of Helsinki) after trying to sell a stolen bicycle to its legitimate owner.
According to police information, the plaintiff's bike was stolen on Friday 22 May from its yard. The next day, a post announcing its sale was published on Facebook's marketplace.
The owner of the bicycle agreed to meet with the seller. After taking a look at the bicycle and confirming that it was his, he alerted a police patrol.
Other frames found
The police arrested the suspect and later conducted a home search in his apartment. Inside, police officers found another seven bicycle frames suspected of being stolen, as well as power pliers.
Police recommend that bicycle owners take pictures of them and write down the frame identification number. If the bike is stolen, always file a crime report and provide this information. That will help hold bike thieves accountable for their actions.
