Kulmuni is competing to remain the leader of Keskusta against three other candidates at her party's conference this weekend in Oulu.

The chair of the Center Party (Keskusta), Katri Kulmuni, sent a harsh message on Friday to her former colleague, Prime Minister and leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Sanna Marin. during the opening speech of her party's conference in Oulu.

Kulmuni, who was the Minister of Finance of the Finnish Government until her resignation in June due to a scandal of misuse of public funds, is competing to remain the head of Keskusta against three other candidates: the Minister of Science and Culture Annika Saarikko, Ilkka Tiainen and Petri Honkonen.

In her speech, Kulmuni responded to the proposal to reduce the duration of the working day launched a few days ago by Sanna Marin while being elected as chair of the SDP in Tampere.

In the midst of the recession caused by the coronavirus pandemic, with more and more companies closing or laying off workers, Marin's idea of working less hours for the same pay caused an outbreak of criticism from businessmen and economists.

Create new jobs

"Finland's biggest concern is not how to make working days shorter. The biggest concern is how to get a job for more and more Finns all over Finland," Kulmuni said.

According to Kulmuni, it is time to focus on solving the problems of people's daily lives, such as the economy, health and security.

In her party's view, the only possible policies now are those that safeguard the existing jobs and create new ones.
