Border Guard confirms Russians 'invaded' Finland last week
The Finnish Border Guard has completed a preliminary investigation into the events that occurred on Tuesday 28 July 2020, when two Russian Sukhoi SU-27 fighter jets entered Finnish airspace near the southern coastal city of Porvoo.
The Border Guard said in a statement that the fighters invaded Finnish airspace at 14:07, and remained within it for one minute, during which they traveled a distance of 10 kilometres. At their lowest point, the planes flew over Finland at an altitude of just 600 meters.
The preliminary investigation of the events was conducted by the Crime Prevention Unit of the Gulf of Finland Coast Guard.
Because neither the identity nor the personal details of the Russian pilots are known, the Border Guard says it is not possible to press charges against anyone for the invasion.
