Increase in sales and turnover of Finnish retail
Retail trade sales and turnover increased in May 2021 compared to the same month the previous year.
According to Statistics Finland’s retail trade flash estimate, in May the working day adjusted turnover of retail trade increased by 3.5% year-on-year.
The volume of sales, from which the impact of price changes has been eliminated, increased by 1.6% over the same period.
In daily consumer goods trade, the working day adjusted turnover increased by 2.1% in May and the sales volume, in turn, decreased by 0.5 per cent from the corresponding period of the previous year.
According to the Structural business and financial statement statistics, daily consumer goods accounted for 52.7% of turnover in retail trade in 2019.
Flash estimate
The retail trade flash estimate is based on a sample covering, on the average, 60% of retail trade turnover.
Data on trade sales by industry will next be released on 14 July 2021.
The Finnish statistical agency publishes flash estimates on retail trade at a lag of under one month from the end of the statistical reference month.
