The Helsinki Regional Transport Authority (HSL) has suspended cash and credit card ticket sales at its service points at Helsinki Central Railway Station and in Itäkeskus "due to the escalating coronavirus situation." This suspension is effective from Wednesday 25 November and will last "until further notice," HSL said in a press release.
HSL explained their decision is based on the new recommendations and restrictions issued last week by the Helsinki Metropolitan Area Coronavirus Coordination Group. "Our goal is to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and to reduce customer contact," the transport authority remarked.
Customers still have other options for buying tickets and topping up HSL cards close to the service points. For example, tickets are available from ticket machines and other sales points. HSL recommends that people primarily buy their tickets using the HSL app or online card service.
The service points will remain open for other business and value and season tickets will be sold to customers who, for example, need to update their customer group. In addition, service voucher and invoice customers can top up their cards at service points as usual.
