Car sales fell to under one half
Passenger car sales fell in May to less than half compared to the previous year.
According to Statistics Finland, a total of 13,115 new motor vehicles were registered, of which 6,313 were automobiles. First registrations decreased by 32.3% from the corresponding month of the previous year.
In May the number of new passenger cars registered was 5,110, which was 53.1% down from the year before. The share of new diesel-driven passenger cars was 16%.
These data are based on the Traffic Affairs Register of the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom) and they have been produced by Statistics Finland. The numbers are exclusive of the vehicles on the Åland Islands.
January to May
In the January to May period of 2020 a total of 71,361 vehicles were first registered. Compared to the year before, there was an decrease of 15.2%.
The number of passenger cars first registered in the January to May period was 39,362, which is 20.9% down from the year before.
The most common passenger car makes first registered in the January to May period were Toyota, Skoda and Volkswagen.
