New carbon neutrality program.
Finnair wants to halve its net emissions by the end of 2025 and achieve carbon neutrality by the end of 2045 at the latest. The airline announced on Thursday its new sustainability plan.
One of the key measures is interrupting in-flight product sales within the EU and focus on pre-order sales on 29 April 2020 to reduce weight in the flights and achieve half reduction of disposable plastics by the end of 2022.
The other main actions to reduce emissions are:
- 3.5-4 billion fleet investment to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in Finnair's European traffic by 10-15%.
- 60 million of investment in sustainability actions for the 2020-2025 strategy period.
- Improving fuel efficiency.
- Increasing the use of renewable aviation fuels.
- Halving catering waste in catering operations by the end of 2022.
