Last year the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom reached an agreement for their divorce. Right now, the United Kingdom is the only country that left the European Union but possibly not the last one.

EU Council's Covid-19 recovery plan also met criticism. Some member states suggested reducing the overall size of the recovery plan. Others, like Finland, have spoken out against the high level of direct subsidies and mutual debt.

Poland and Hungary have been shifting from democracy to authoritarianism and not meet some EU criteria.

Therefore, Foreigner.fi asked the readers in a Twitter poll, “Is Finland benefiting from EU membership or would better be on its own?”

In the poll, respondents were given two options, which were 'Stay in EU' and 'Leave'.

The mini poll was answered by 90 readers and 81.1% of the readers think Finland should stay in EU. 18.9% voted ‘Leave'.

About the reader’s comments from Facebook, one reader said, “Finland is seeking protection from the EU otherwise it would be already part of Russia.”

Another reader said, “In my opinion there should be Nordic countries union, "Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland". Population would be fair enough to have one army for protection and their economy would be much better without the EU.”
