Finland passenger car registrations decrease in August

The share of new electric passenger cars was 10,1% and plug-in hybrid electric cars 17,9%

Car sales, one of the best thermometers for measuring the health of an economy, fell in Finland in August.

The number of new passenger cars registered in Finland in August was 7,904, which is 6.9% less than in the same month of the previous year.

In August, a total of 13,865 new motor vehicles were registered, of which 9,328 were automobiles. First registrations decreased 1.3% year-on-year.

The share of new electric passenger cars was 10,1% and plug-in hybrid electric cars 17,9%. A total of 2,218 new electric and plug-in hybrid electric cars were registered, which was 51.6% up from the year before.

In the January to August period the number of passenger cars first registered was 72,124, which is 11% up from the year before.

Toyota, Volkswagen

A total of 129,523 vehicles were registered from January to August, up 10.6% from the same period of the year before.

The most common passenger car makes first registered in the January to August period were Toyota, Volkswagen and Skoda.

These data are based on the Traffic Affairs Register of the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom). The numbers are exclusive of the vehicles on the Åland Islands.
