564,100 pupils study at Finnish comprehensive schools. 49% of those students are girls and 51% are boys.
According to Statistics Finland, in 2019 the number of pupils enrolled in basic education increased by 0.6% from the year before.
In all, 11.6% of comprehensive school pupils received intensified support in autumn 2019 and 8.5% special support.
In autumn 2019, a total of 437 children of statutory school age were being home-schooled. And 668 children received a one-year postponement in starting basic education. There were 1,332 children of statutory school age temporarily residing abroad in autumn 2019.
The number of pre-primary education pupils was 59,652 of whom 9,445 were in pre-primary education in schools and 50,207 in day care.
There were 2,288 active comprehensive schools in autumn 2019, which was 53 schools fewer than in the year before.
Municipalities ran 95% of the comprehensive schools.
