Car sales still sunk

Only 8,023 new passenger cars were registered in June, 23.9% down from the year before.

Car sales are still sunk, with the new registrations figures far from previous years.

According to Statistics Finland, in June 2020 a total of 16,205 new motor vehicles were registered, of which 9,146 were automobiles. First registrations decreased by 11.0% from the corresponding month of the previous year.

In the specific case of passenger cars, the number of new units registered was 8,023, which was 23.9% down from the year before. The share of new diesel-driven passenger cars was 16.7%. These numbers are exclusive of the vehicles on the Åland Islands.

First half of the year

In the January to June period of 2020 a total of 87,570 vehicles were first registered. Compared to the year before, there was a decrease of 14.4%.

The number of passenger cars first registered in the first half of the year was 47,385, which is 21.4% down from the same period the year before.

The most common passenger car makes first registered in the January to June period were Toyota, Skoda and Volkswagen.
