Volvo recalls 2 million cars for seat belt repair
Due to a safety risk, 68,000 vehicles should receive a repair call in Finland.
Volvo is making the largest recall in its history and is calling for 2.1 million cars to be repaired due to a safety risk in the front seat belts.
The cars to be repaired are mainly models from the years 2007-2018 due to an issue with a steel cable connected to the front seat belts. In the list there are a dozen different models, including the popular V60, V70, S60, S80, XC60 and XC70.
The carmaker said that the cable "may, under certain rare circumstances and user behaviours, over time suffer from fatigue. This could eventually cause damages to the cable, resulting in reduced seat belt restraint function."
Jaana Kuivalainen, Director of Technical Services at Volvo Car Finland talked with Yle and said: “For these Volvos, the front seat belt connector must be replaced either on one side or on both sides.”
According to Kuivalainen, the risky cars and their owners are known by the company. So, everyone will receive an invitation by post to take care of the matter.
Kuivalainen emphasizes that there is no burning hurry to do the repair work. You can continue driving as usual until the part is replaced.

The repair work will be carried out by authorized Volvo workshops during the autumn. There will be no work charges for the Volvo owners.
The recall also affected 412,000 cars in Sweden, 308,000 in the United States, 245,000 in China, and 178,000 in Germany.
