The Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, said that the Pediatric Vaccination Campaign against Covid-19, which began on Wednesday throughout the country, represents an important milestone in the objective of stopping the pandemic. And it is so, she said, thanks to vaccines that "have saved" and "will continue to save lives."

This was emphasized by the minister after her visit to the Buenavista neighborhood Health Center, in Toledo, accompanied by the Minister of Health of Castilla-La Mancha, Jesús Fernández Sanz. Her presence coincided with the beginning of the Pediatric Vaccination Campaign for children from 9 to 11 years old in this region.

The Minister of Health emphasized the "extraordinary" positive response that the childhood vaccination campaign had on its first day.

On Wednesday, health professionals began to inoculate the more than 1.3 million pediatric doses of Pfizer/BioNTech that arrived in Spain on Monday.

To that number, more than 2 million additional pediatric doses will be added in January, said Minister Darias. The objective is to inoculate the first jab to the nearly 3.3 million children aged 5- to 11-years-old that live in Spain.

The administration of the second dose of the pediatric vaccine to the child population will begin after 8 weeks, according to the agreement of the Spanish Public Health Commission.

'Responsibility'

Vaccination is being carried out with specific vaccines for children from Pfizer/BioNTech, authorized by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

The Minister of Health had words of appreciation for the work carried out by health professionals, especially the nursing staff. She also thanked the children and their parents for "their responsibility and civility" by joining the vaccination campaign.

“It is an important and emotional day," said Minister Darias.
