More than 1 million coronavirus infections have been registered in France since the beginning of the pandemic, according to official figures.
The health authorities said there were a total of 1.04 million confirmed cases in the country of some 67 million people by Friday evening.
A record 42,032 new infections were reported on Friday for the previous 24 hours.
From Saturday, the night-time curfew imposed to curb the spread of the coronavirus is due to be extended over some two-thirds of the country's residents.
In 54 administrative regions
The curfew would then apply in 54 of France's administrative regions, or departments, and the overseas territory of French Polynesia.
Since last weekend, a health emergency has been in force in France again, under which the government can enforce extensive restrictions by decree.
So far, more than 34,500 people have died in France in connection with coronavirus infections.
