Vaccinated people in Sweden can, in principle, once again live a normal life after 29 September, said Johan Carlson, director of the country's health authority, on Tuesday.
Sweden is planning to lift coronavirus restrictions on attending public events such as concerts and football matches on that day, Social Affairs Minister Lena Hallengren had announced on Tuesday.
Restrictions on private parties also fall away on that date, as does the recommendation that employees should work from home.
"Thanks to a successful vaccination campaign, we have come a long way in dealing with the pandemic," said Hallengren. It is now mainly people who are not vaccinated who become ill and have to be treated in hospital, according to the social affairs minister.
Carlson also stressed the risk of serious illness that still remains for those who remain unvaccinated.
Intensive care
On Tuesday, 57 patients were in intensive care because of a Covid-19 infection.
About 82 per cent of the Swedish population over age 16 has now received one dose, while 70 per cent have received two doses.
