Iceland on Monday received its first batch of coronavirus vaccines, the day before it planned to begin vaccinations.
The almost 10,000 doses of the vaccine produced by Pfizer and BioNTech were flown in from Amsterdam.
Front-line health workers and people in care and nursing homes were due to be the first to be vaccinated.
"Today is a day of good news. There are many lessons that we can learn from the Covid pandemic, but the most important one is that we are stronger together," said Health Minister Svandis Svavarsdottir at a press conference.
Smiles under masks
"I wish you could all see the smiles under these masks. There are smiles," she added.
The North Atlantic country of almost 365,0000 people has recorded 28 coronavirus-related deaths and 5,700 infections.
Other Nordic countries - Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden - received their first batches on Saturday.
