The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) reported 259 new coronavirus cases and 2 deaths on Monday. So far, Finland has recorded 9,743 Covid-19 infections and 345 fatalities.
According to the data provided by THL, the two most recent deaths would have occurred in the Kuopio hospital district, where to date 27 people have died.
These infections and deaths correspond to the entire weekend in addition to those that had been registered until Friday. More specifically, 93 new cases were diagnosed on Saturday; 105 on Sunday and 61 on Monday.
Restrictions on restaurants
The Finnish government alerted last week of an escalation in the number of infections and extended its recommendation to use the masks beyond public transport.
For their part, the Helsinki health authorities also said the capital region has entered an "acceleration phase of the epidemic" and asked to tighten the restrictions on bars and gatherings of people.
Sanna Marin's cabinet will hold a meeting on Tuesday afternoon at the House of the Estates to discuss a possible tightening of the restrictions, with an eye to restaurants, bars, pubs, nightclubs and other entertainment venues. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health will propose to shorten opening hours to curb possible infections.

Hospital situation stable
Despite the negative evolution, the THL data show that at least the situation in Finnish hospitals remains stable. The number of people hospitalized for Covid-19 is 22 and the patients admitted to intensive care units are 4, practically the same as last week.
During the most recent fourteen-day monitoring period (12–25 September), 1,011 new cases were diagnosed. The incidence of new cases in relation to the population was 18.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
To date, Finnish laboratories have tested samples from approximately 975,800 people. An estimated 7,850 people have recovered from the disease, which is over 80% of reported cases.
