Paris was informed about the case late on Monday, French government spokesperson Gabriel Attal told broadcaster Europe 1 on Tuesday.

The infected person had travelled to Mozambique in mid-November and returned to La Reunion on November 21. The island lies east of Africa in the Indian Ocean.

Suspected Omicron cases in mainland France are currently being investigated, Attal said.
