Finland continues to be immersed in a stage of spread of the coronavirus, as indicated by the health authorities and reflected by the contagion figures.
According to the numbers released Monday by the National Institute of Health and Welfare (THL), the health authorities reported a total of 422 new Covid-19 infections to the communicable disease registry since Friday. More specifically, 160 new cases were reported on Saturday 17 October, 131 infections on Sunday and other 131 on Monday.
To date, the total number of diagnosed infections in Finland stands at 13,555. So far, the total number of deaths is 351. More than half of these deaths have occurred in the Helsinki-Uusimaa region, which is the epicenter of the epidemic.

Incidence of new cases
The figures also show a sharp increase (compared to a week ago) in the number of people hospitalized due to the Covid-19 disease, which now stands at 62. Of these, 7 are admitted to intensive care. Hospital patients increased by 6 and patients in intensive care by 1 compared to last Friday.
The total incidence of new cases in relation to the population is remains more or less stable. Now it is 49.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants for the whole country in the last two-week period of assessment (until Friday 16 October).
However, there are large variations in the infection rate. For example in the Helsinki area - the epicenter and worst hit region - it is 85.5 per 100,000 residents, while in Northern Ostrobothnia it is 10.5 per 100,000.
Finnish laboratories have carried out more than 1,301,400 tests. An estimated 9,100 people have recovered from the disease, representing about 70% of reported cases.
